Not Your Grandma's Lemonade Stand
This specific image interpellates my interests automatically because it “talks to me” when my eyes meet its projection. Naturally, it invokes feelings of reminiscence to my childhood, and makes me think of the hope of freedom we have always had for this country because it brings the words, “independent owners” to my mind. The flowers in this picture make me believe that the lemons beside it are as beautiful or organic as they are The producers of this photo may have intended this picture as an ad scheme. “This kind of lemonade is the best kind.” I believe my viewing is unique because not everyone grew up selling lemonade in their neighborhood or have experienced it in general. This being said, others may view this image in a completely opposite way that I do. This happens with every picture posted and interpellated by individuals every day of our lives. What does this picture say to you?
Jodi i agree this photo does put off that warm fuzzy reminiscence to our childhood. On another note, what the heck happened to them? I cannot recal the last time i saw eager children behind a lemonade stand. Maybe it is television or video games, or those name brand cookies the schools are always pushing them to sell. And you are right about the "independent owners" our country has always enjoyed, but they are also becoming few and far between. When i see this picture it makes me not want to shop at places like Walmart anymore!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! Its definitely something we all grew up seeing. These two boys that live down my street posted up a lemonade stand a couple of weeks ago, but the street is never busy and I don't think they made anything =(
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post, definitely reminds me of my grandmother's house also. We used to have our own little lemonade stand in front of her house and she was so helpful. Back then, WAY BACK THEN, it seemed that people would stop and buy a cup of lemonade and never think twice about it, whereas I have even caught myself stopping at a lemonade stand that the kids in our neighborhood have prepared, buying the lemonade, and then throwing it away. We live in a much more cautious society, sadly. Enjoyed reading your post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for evoking the fond memories, Jodi. I had a lemonade stand, too!
ReplyDeleteThis picture brings back memories of complete happiness, which are mostly of my childhood. The handwriting, reminds of a child's handwriting and the color yellow is supposed to evoke happiness. Definitely agree with your post :)Great picture!
